BIOS Release Notes

The following modifications were made to the A04 BIOS to create A05:

Issue fixed:
1.  Fixed issue in which some batteries may permanently stop charging.
2.  Fixed issue in which systems may fail to complete POST with 256MB
    RAM installed.
3.  Fixed issue in which Remote BIOS Update may fail to update the
    BIOS.
4.  Fixed issue in which the fans may remain on high speed constantly.


The BIOS release has been validated on the following operating systems:
1.  Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition APM only
2.  Microsoft Windows 2000 ACPI
3.  Microsoft Windows XP.

The following modifications were made to the A03 BIOS to create A04:

Issue fixed:
1.  Fixed issue in which the Dell Windows 98 recovery CD may report
    that there is not enough free memory to install.
2.  Fixed issue in which the LCD display on systems equipped with
    ATI video controllers may display a "bloom" after a resume if
    the system is protected with a BIOS password.
3.  Fixed issue in which the LCD may be blank when resuming from
    suspend in extended desktop mode with a BIOS password installed.
4.  Fixed the Wake On LAN setting in system setup to only apply to
    waking the system from Hibernate or the Off state. The NIC driver
    is responsible for Wake On LAN from Standby.
5.  Fixed issue in which NumLock is always enabled when the system is
    booted with a USB keyboard attached.
6.  Fixed issue seen under ACPI Operating Systems in which the volume
    hotkeys do not update the mixer unless the mixer is open or audio
    is playing.

Enhancements:  
1.  Optimized the battery charging algorithm.
2.  Added support for new LCD panels.
3.  Optimized the thermal control procedures.
4.  Added support for Celeron processors.

The following modifications were made to the A01 BIOS to create A02:

Issue fixed:
1. Fixed issue in which the system may fail to Wake-On-LAN after a
   time-out to suspend.
2. Fixed lockup seen when resuming from suspend or hibernate with a
   critically-low battery if a BIOS password is enabled.
3. Fixed lockup seen when ejecting from a dock under Win98.
4. Fixed lockups seen under WinXP when warm docking, hot docking and
   warm undocking.
5. Corrected the battery charging order so that the primary battery
   charges first in a dual-battery configuration.
6. Fixed problem reading from some floppy disk drives when connected
   through a parallel port floppy cable.
7. Fixed issue in which ACPI operating systems may fail to indicate
   when a battery is fully charged.

Enhancement:  
1. Added support for nVidia NV11 video controllers.
