Dell SAS 5/E Controller SAS 5/E SAS Address Update Tool: 1.00.01 Table of Contents ================= 1 Introduction 2 Performing the update 3 Important Information 4 Fixes/Enhancements 1.0 Introduction ================== Some SAS5/E Controllers have been incorrectly programmed to the same SAS address of "123456789abcde99". This may cause an address conflict during setup if there are multiple SAS5/E controllers sharing a common storage enclosure. The configured SAS 5/E SAS address can be identified by entering the SAS 5/E Configuration Utility. The SAS address is displayed in the "Adapter Properties" menu for each listed controller. Enter the Configuration Utility by pressing CTRL-C at POST. Select a specific adapter on the list to enter its "Adapter Properties" menu. The SAS address can also be determined through the MDSM topology page. The SAS5EADD tool discovers all the SAS5/E Controllers on the system and reprograms SAS addresses to a unique SAS address for only those SAS5/E Controllers that are found to have the SAS address "123456789abcde99". This utility may not be used for any purpose other than updating the SAS address for the controllers programmed incorrectly from the factory as described above. There is not any external binary dependency to run this tool. - The tool will recognize and perform the update ONLY on effected SAS5/E controllers. - The tool will examine all SAS5/E Controllers discovered on the system. For each SAS5E Controller found, the tool does the following: - Read the Current SAS Address of the SAS5/E Controller - If the SAS Address is of the form "123456789abcde99" then generate a unique sas address and program that to the SAS5/E Controller - If the SAS Address is NOT "123456789abcde99" then the tool skips that SAS5/E controller - This utility reprograms SAS addresses to a unique SAS address for only those SAS5/E Controllers that have the SAS address "123456789abcde99". When run on a controller not having address "123456789abcde99", there is no change made. Notes on some Restrictions in the Tool: --------------------------------------- - A reboot or power cycle during the tool execution may render the card inoperable. 4.0 Fixes/Enhancements ================================ Initial Release
